About

new action shotI’m Rachel Buchanan – a teaching and research academic in the Faculty of Education and Arts at the University of Newcastle, Australia. I’m a senior lecturer in the School of Education and I teach educational foundations. I’ve published in the areas of educational philosophy, ethics, pedagogy, sociology, and education policy and politics. My research interests centre on social justice and equity in education, leading to me work in projects on academic literacy, widening participation, educational policy, digital identity and the equity implications of the increased use of digital technologies. I am currently investigating the digital footprint awareness and knowledge of educators, parents/carers and primary, secondary and university students.

I’m a founding member of the DICE Research network. DICE is a collective of scholars interested in digital identity, digital footprint, curation of online presence, and serious games for learning. We investigate new frontiers in digital engagement and education to produce research and resources (e.g. apps and games) for today’s learner.
